Danville Plays Stars Hollow for One October Weekend. Here's How the Rest of the Month Runs.

October 8, 2026

"It offers that picturesque, small-town charm while offering proximity to major Bay Area airports," Small Town Venture founder Ariana Arghandewal told Patch when explaining why her company picked Danville to host Flannel & Foliage, its new autumn festival themed on Gilmore Girls. That second half of the sentence matters most for anyone who lives here. The festival is built to draw people from outside the region, and Danville's Town Manager has said the same about expected attendance.

The weekend of October 23 to 25 will still feel smaller downtown than the headlines suggest. Flannel & Foliage was planned around facilities the Town already has. The rooms have fixed capacity, and the Town Manager said the event is not expected to require street closures. So for residents, the festival comes down to a few specific questions: which parking lots and doorways get crowded, and at what hours. The rest of October runs on the Town's usual seasonal calendar around it.

A waitlist of 15,000 against rooms that hold a few hundred

The Mercury News reported on September 2 that the festival's waitlist had passed 15,000. In the same story it put cast panel capacity at about 245 people per day and photo-op capacity at about 1,500. The waitlist measures interest. The rooms set the limit on how many people actually come.

The ticket page shows how fast those limits were reached. All three free general-admission day passes are listed as sold out, along with Saturday's All-Access and Townie passes. A few paid passes for Friday and Sunday were still listed when the page was captured. Organizers price photo ops, meals, and autograph sessions one by one. Many visitors will be holding tickets to particular sessions at particular times, which spreads arrivals across the day.

Patch reported the announced cast as Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Sean Gunn, Emily Kuroda, Yanic Truesdale, Todd Lowe, and John Cabrera, with more names possible. Small Town Venture is a private company and is not affiliated with Warner Bros. Television. The organizer also reserved discounted room blocks at Hyatt House San Ramon. That means some out-of-town guests will be driving into downtown each morning, not staying within walking distance.

Where the festival actually happens

The organizer's schedule is labeled tentative and has no venue map. It names six locations.

Location What the tentative schedule places there
Prospect Park Plaza Early check-in Thursday, October 22, 3 to 6 p.m.; Friday check-in 8 to 11 a.m.
Village Theatre, 233 Front Street Friday 9:30 a.m. welcome and 10 a.m. cast panel; Friday 5 p.m. screening; Saturday 10 a.m. programming; Sunday 8:30 a.m. talk with Emily Kuroda
Danville Community Center Saturday programming from 10 a.m.
Veterans Memorial Building Friday afternoon trivia and autographs; Saturday programming from 10 a.m.
Hap Magee Ranch Park Picnic from noon to 2 p.m. on each festival day
Bridges Dinner seatings at 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday

The published hours don't all agree. The Mercury News listed general public hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The organizer's spreadsheet, though, has check-in opening Thursday afternoon, a talk at 8:30 Sunday morning, and dinner seatings running past 7 p.m. Danville San Ramon also printed the dates as October 23 to 26, while the Town and the organizer both say October 23 to 25. The spreadsheet is the more detailed of the two, so it's the better guide to when Front Street will be busy. Since it's still marked tentative, check it again the week of the event.

The Town Green sits this one out

Patch said Danville will play a New England village "with a gazebo." Yet the festival schedule doesn't list the Town Green or its bandstand as a venue. The Town Green is in the early stages of construction this fall.

The Town broke ground late this summer on two projects next to each other. A permanent Town Green Pavilion at 420 Front Street will replace the existing bandstand. An Art District Makers Space is going in at 282 Front Street. The Pavilion will have a raised stage with a permanent solid roof and built-in lighting for Concerts in the Park and other Town Green programs. The Makers Space will be a 2,100-square-foot studio with a 735-square-foot patio and a kiln, and it can work as one large classroom or two smaller ones for painting, pottery, and ceramics. The two projects share a $3.8 million budget paid for through the Town's annual Capital Improvement Program.

The finish date is less settled. A graphic in the Town Manager's September 1 report says "Completion: Fall 2027." An August 20 issue of The Danville Dispatch, citing the Town's project page, said spring 2027. The project page itself lists the current stage as "Construction Begins" and gives no end date. None of the sources say how access to the lawn will be handled during the festival weekend.

How the weekend reaches residents

With no street closures expected, the busy spots will be the parking lots and the venue entrances. The organizer's own guide says downtown public parking near the Library and the Village Theatre is free but fills quickly. It recommends carpooling, or parking at the Sycamore Park & Ride and taking County Connection Bus 21 downtown for $2.50. The guide does not mention a shuttle run by the festival.

Using the tentative schedule, the busiest windows for Front Street and the nearby lots look like this:

  1. Thursday, October 22, 3 to 6 p.m., when early check-in opens at Prospect Park Plaza.
  2. Friday, October 23, 8 to 11 a.m., when check-in and the first Village Theatre sessions overlap.
  3. Each day from noon to 2 p.m., when picnic crowds shift toward Hap Magee Ranch Park.
  4. Friday and Saturday evenings, with the 5:30 and 7 p.m. dinner seatings at Bridges and a Friday screening at the Village Theatre.

The Saturday farmers market is the one fixed event that falls inside this window. It is still listed year-round on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 205 Railroad Avenue, and no fall schedule change has been posted. On October 24, market hours will overlap with Saturday's 10 a.m. festival programming at three Town venues.

Merchants seem to have been part of the planning. Danville San Ramon reported that the Town Manager described local businesses as engaged and mentioned an application for a business-promotion grant tied to the event.

The rest of October runs on the Town's calendar

The festival takes up three days. The other four weeks belong to programming the Town and the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce put on for residents, much of it at the same Front Street and Hartz Avenue addresses.

  • October 1 to November 1: Scarecrow Stroll returns, with more than 50 downtown businesses putting scarecrow displays in their windows and the public voting for favorites.
  • October 2, 3, 9 and 10: The Village Theatre's staged-reading series presents four contemporary plays with professional actors. People who attend more than one reading can vote for a favorite, which helps shape future productions.
  • October 4: The Mount Diablo Challenge closes North Gate, South Gate, and Summit roads to cars from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trails and fire roads stay open.
  • October 17, 11 a.m.: A magician performs for children at the Village Theatre.
  • October 28, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Crawloween, a 21-and-over tasting crawl with more than 20 downtown businesses, according to the Chamber.
  • October 30, 7 to 9 p.m.: Halloween Improv Night at the Village Theatre.

The Town's fall guide at danville.ca.gov/fall covers what's happening this week and what's coming next, and it invites residents to check back through the season.

Hartz Avenue's dinner options changed going into the month

The restaurants along Hartz Avenue changed in late summer. Rancho Cantina soft-opened August 24 at 501 Hartz Avenue, at Church Street, in the former Cocina Hermanas space. Its owners had once aimed for mid-June. Virtue + Vice at 267 Hartz Avenue served its last meals in mid-September, as Danville San Ramon reported on September 11. Albi's, the Mediterranean beer garden behind Incontro at 455 Hartz, and Sushi Tamahime in the Clocktower at 301 Hartz, Suite 106, both opened this spring. These are among the businesses that will be decorating for Scarecrow Stroll and serving Crawloween and festival crowds.

Getting out of town has a few changes too. The Town's latest Diablo Road multi-use trail update, dated September 25, says the three retaining walls along Green Valley Creek are substantially complete. Crews have moved on to drainage, backfill, and grading ahead of the trail's base and paving. An earlier Town advisory expected that phase, with its daytime traffic control on Diablo Road between Fairway Drive and Alameda Diablo, to last until about October 15.

Choosing the right weekend matters for selling a property in Danville too. Showings, open houses, and photo shoots near Front Street will go better if they're scheduled around October 23 to 25 and the Saturday market.
